This Princes Islands tour Istanbul is one of the top-rated experiences offered by Istanbul Daily Cruises. If you’re looking for a break from the beautiful chaos of Istanbul, this Princes Islands Tour is exactly what you need. Starting with a scenic bosphorus cruise that carries you away from the city’s energy, this full-day journey takes you to one of Istanbul’s best-kept treasures — a cluster of nine islands sitting quietly in the Marmara Sea. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or you’ve been to Istanbul a dozen times, the Princes Islands have a way of surprising you. They feel like a different world, and yet, unmistakably, they are Istanbul at its most authentic.
There are no cars on the Princes Islands. Let that sink in for a moment. In a city of 16 million people, where traffic is a way of life, stepping off a boat onto an island where the only sounds are horse hooves on cobblestones and the occasional bicycle bell is genuinely spectacular. The air smells of pine and sea salt. Cats lounge on wooden staircases. Fishermen throw lines from the quay. Time moves differently here.
The islands have a layered, fascinating history. During the Byzantine era, they were used as places of exile for royals and nobles who fell out of favor — princes, empresses, and political rivals were sent here, far enough away to be forgotten, close enough to remain a reminder. That complicated history is woven into every old stone wall and crumbling monastery you’ll encounter. Later, during the Ottoman period, wealthy Istanbul families built grand summer mansions here, many of which still stand today, their wooden facades painted in soft yellows, greens, and blues.
Before you even set foot on the islands, the istanbul bosphorus tour experience begins the moment you board the private boat. Leaving Istanbul behind and watching the city’s skyline — minarets, domes, and centuries-old waterfront mansions — slowly recede into the distance is one of those travel moments you genuinely don’t forget. The water shifts from the deep blue of the Bosphorus to the calmer, lighter tones of the Marmara Sea as you make your way south toward the islands.
This isn’t a crowded public ferry experience. Your Bosphorus cruise is operated on a private boat, meaning you have space to move around, find a good spot on deck, and actually enjoy the scenery rather than fighting for a view over someone’s shoulder. The crew is warm and attentive, and the atmosphere on board feels relaxed and genuinely welcoming from the very start.
During the tour, you’ll make stops at three of the nine Princes Islands: Büyükada, Heybeliada, and Kınalıada. Each one has its own distinct personality, and together they give you a beautifully rounded picture of island life in Istanbul.
The bosphorus tour istanbul package includes private boat transport throughout the day, guided historical storytelling that brings the Ottoman and Byzantine stories of these islands to life, and an open buffet lunch served on board. The lunch spread features grilled chicken and a generous selection of traditional Turkish meze — think smoky eggplant salads, creamy hummus, fresh bread, and seasonal vegetables. It’s honest, delicious Turkish food, the kind you’d eat at a local family table. Please note that beverages are not included in the price, but they are available to purchase on board.
This is one of those tours that locals themselves recommend to their visiting friends, and that’s about the highest praise a travel experience can receive. Whether you’re drawn by the history, the natural beauty, the food, or simply the idea of spending a day somewhere that feels genuinely peaceful, the Princes Islands will deliver. Combined with the magic of the bosphorus cruise that frames the whole journey, this is a full-day experience that belongs at the top of any Istanbul itinerary. Spaces are limited, so don’t wait — book your spot now with Istanbul Daily Cruises and give yourself the day on the water you’ve been dreaming about.

First Stop of Princes Islands cruise is the Kınalıada Island:
The smallest one of these three ısland is Kınalıada Island which has wonderful summer resorts. These houses can be rent by everybody during summers but generally Armenian community hires them for summer vacations.
The name of Kınalıada comes from the reddish colored material henna (kına). The henna forms from iron and copper which have been mined in Kınalıada in the past.
There are both historical and natural beauties in Kınalıada that will fascinate you! To illustrate, the touristic attraction such as Ayazma Beach and Hristos Monastery are locating on Kınalıada. Hristos Monastery is on the hill of the island, and it was constructed by exiled Byzantium Emperor Romanus IV (Diogenes). He also buried in the monastery. If you wonder Hristos Monastery, you can visit it only on the Fridays, because it is only open to public on Fridays.
Second Stop of Princes Islands cruise is the Heybeliada Island:
The Heybeliada is in the middle between Kınalıada and Buyukada about its size. The name of island was different during Byzantium period such as Khalkitis or Chalki. There were multiple cooper mines on these times in the Heybeliada but they are closed now.
Of course there are amazing historical structures on the Heybeliada such as Naval Academy which was a Greek Orthodox High School in the past (1773). Unfortunately, this spectacularly huge building is closed to visit. However, if you want to just a glance to it we can say, it is located on the northern hill of Kınalıada, between the pine trees.
Last Stop of Princes Islands cruise is the Buyukada Island (Istanbul Big Island)
The most popular and the largest island of these three islands is the Buyukada Islands. Every year millions of local and foreign tourists visit the Buyukada because it is kind of heaven on the Istanbul.
In addition to its amazing views from all sides of the island, of course there are splendid historical buildings such as Aya Yorgi Church and Monastery, Ayios Dimitrios Church, Hristos Church and Monastery, Hamidiye Mosque and so on. As you see there are structures from both Byzantium and Ottoman periods which makes these islands more interesting and unique for tourists.
There are both long and short tours on Buyukada island that you can choose. We need to add that the longest break of the Princes Islands boat tour will be on the Buyukada Island.
